Probably the most dramatic change you can make is done by selecting a floorplan that makes room for a garage. Since the garage is not finished like the inside of your house, it's very affordable to build onto your home into comparison. The addition of a garage will significantly improve the "curb appeal" of your home and potentially help with resale values.
If you would like to modify the appearance of your house without doing it yourself, adding a dormer or windows to the second story as an option is a great way to have it handled for you.
